CARD – Light to Life Project in Kalahandi

The CARD – Light to Life Project in Kalahandi, Odisha, launched on 7 January 2025, supports 150 children from SC, ST, OBC, and farming communities across four villages, like Lubengarh, Turlakhaman, Limgaon, and Ghusuramunda. With a strong focus on equitable education, especially for girls, the project also ensures health, nutrition, leadership development, and cultural engagement. Key interventions in 2024–25 included admission support for higher education, distribution of uniforms and study materials, parent meetings, cultural events, health camps, hygiene kit distribution, and leadership training. Activities like skill development workshops, counseling sessions, sports, music training, and environmental celebrations built holistic development and resilience among children. Additionally, family empowerment initiatives such as kitchen gardening, livelihood support, and PRI trainings strengthened community participation and sustainability.

The project has recorded significant achievements in the past year, including improved academic outcomes, better hygiene and nutrition, enhanced confidence through child rights awareness and leadership training, and stronger emotional well-being fostered by counseling and cultural activities. Innovative practices like kitchen gardens have boosted nutrition, savings, and self-reliance among families. Inspiring success stories, such as Rajasmita Suna excelling as a dancer and Joseph Benia earning a livelihood through tailoring, showcase the project’s transformative impact. Looking ahead, the initiative aims to deepen community-based livelihood opportunities, establish a Children’s Parliament, expand support for post-matric students, and strengthen collaborations with local systems, ensuring long-term growth and empowerment for children and families in Kalahandi.
