The CARD – Light to Life Project in Kuttampuzha and Kumily, 499 children, covering panchayats across Ernakulam and Idukki Districts, Kerala, works among disadvantaged tribal and forest-border children, focusing on education, health, psychosocial development, and livelihood support. Daily tuition, mentoring, and distribution of school materials strengthen academics, while tailoring classes, leadership training, and staff workshops promote skills and confidence. Health and nutrition are supported through nutritious meals, screenings, awareness classes, and de-addiction seminars in collaboration with the Excise Department. Community engagement is fostered through initiatives like the Aadhar Mela with the Postal Department, street plays on social issues, and the Green City–Clean City campaign, alongside celebrations of national and cultural events. Special initiatives included support for flood-affected families in Wayanad and children’s contributions towards a water tank at Anchukudi Colony, highlighting their social responsibility.
The project has achieved strong outcomes through active child and parent participation, partnerships with local bodies, and regular evaluation meetings, despite challenges such as wild animal threats, family migration, broken households, and a lack of infrastructure. A striking success story is that of Bibin V.R. from Manikandanchal, who grew from a 4th standard enrollee to a 10th-grade achiever excelling in bamboo craft, gaining state-level recognition, and supporting his family through his skills even after losing his father in the 2025 floods. His resilience reflects the project’s transformative impact, nurturing talent and instilling hope. The year 2024–25 demonstrated consistent progress in education, health, awareness, and livelihood, positioning the project as a beacon of resilience and growth. Moving forward, the focus remains on strengthening community ownership, expanding partnerships, and building sustainable futures for children in Kuttampuzha and Kumily.
