Neighborhood Mission

Neighborhood Mission includes outreach activities specifically focused on serving the neighborhoods surrounding our parishes. These efforts aim to build meaningful relationships, address local needs, and extend the church’s presence in the community through acts of service.

Vision

Neighborhood Mission seeks to actively serve and support the local community by engaging in various ministry outreach efforts. Through programs focused on compassion, service, and faith, Neighborhood Mission seeks to meet both the spiritual and practical needs of individuals and families, fostering a sense of hope, connection, and transformation within the neighborhood.

Project Design

The mission encourages the parishes of the Diocese to actively collaborate with local churches, community agencies, and institutions in order to more effectively respond to the specific needs of their neighborhoods. By fostering partnerships and working together across denominational and organizational lines, parishes can provide a more unified and impactful witness of Christ’s love and presence within the local community. This spirit of collaboration strengthens both the outreach efforts and the bonds within the neighborhood, reflecting the Church’s commitment to service, unity, and compassion. Through such partnerships, we are able to extend our reach, respond more effectively to local needs, and demonstrate the compassion and love of Christ in tangible ways.

Activities

The Diocese of North America launched the Southwest Border Colonias Neighborhood Mission in 2024 to provide direct support to the impoverished Colonias residents, who are located in unincorporated settlements along the USA–Mexico border near McAllen, Texas. The initiative focuses on addressing critical needs such as food insecurity, housing, education, and healthcare in these marginalized communities.

Our local parishes have partnered with a variety of organizations and agencies to carry out diverse forms of outreach. These collaborative efforts have included initiatives such as food distribution programs, community clean-up projects, support services for the homeless, educational workshops, and care for the sick and elderly.
