Christian Agency for Rural Development
CARD’s first Rural Development Project was launched in 1978 at Wandoor, Malappuram District, under the guidance of Rt. Rev. Easow Mar Timotheos Episcopa, who brought valuable expertise in this field acquired through training in Japan and the support of Mysore Resettlement and Development Agency (MYRADA). Building on this foundation, CARD has gone on to lead a wide range of Rural Development Projects over the years, equipping rural communities with the tools and opportunities needed to improve their lives and stand on their own feet. Today, CARD works across eight states in India, operating from its headquarters in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, and offering its services to everyone, regardless of caste, creed, or religion.
Our major programmes include the Child Support Programme, Tribal Community Development Programmes, Rural Development Programme, Rural Education, Agriculture, and Food Security, HIV/AIDS prevention, Gender equality and women empowerment, Protection of Biodiversity, Disaster Management, Rural Marketing, Government linkage programme, and Livelihood support.

Policy and Perspective
CARD’s guiding beliefs
The programs and policies of CARD are rooted in the belief that every individual is created in the image of God and deserves to live a just, humane, and dignified life within sustainable societies.
We are focused on the sustainable, equitable, and holistic development of communities, dedicated to safeguarding the dignity and rights of all individuals, rejecting all forms of discrimination.
We believe that the Earth and its resources are meant for the well-being of all living beings.
Issues such as hunger, poverty, injustice, denial of human rights, caste discrimination, and environmental degradation contradict principles of love and care.
We are focused on transforming individuals and society through caring, sharing, and empowering communities. We strive to enable every person to achieve their full potential in life.
Models of Development
Three foundational development models guide CARD’s community development work, each reflecting a distinct commitment to how communities grow, thrive, and lead their own transformation.
